Jeong Seong-yeon, a Dongdaemun district council member, will leave the People Power Party and join the New Reform Party on the 21st. New Reform Party chairwoman Heo Eun-ah expressed her deep gratitude for Jeong's departure and joining the party.
According to a political source on the 20th, Rep. Chung will hold a press conference to announce her joining the party at the National Assembly Communication Center on the 21st, and will also take part in an induction ceremony at the Reform New Party Supreme Committee on the same day.
Rep. Chung, who served as vice-chairman of the Dongdaemun District Council for three terms, said on the 18th of this month that he left the People's Power Party and was trying to curry favor in order to run for election as chairman of the local party association.
Rep. Chung said, "The Reform Party is a party of people who are trying to solve problems on the ground, not on ideology.
"It has become possible to conduct politics that focuses on the people, rather than viewing those in power as sunflowers," he said.
It was reported that Chairman Heo's persistent persuasion was the reason why Rep. Chung joined the party.
Heo said, "Representative Chung is a politician of great importance who was elected three times as vice-chairman of the Dongdaemun District Council. Chung's entry into the party will be the start of cracks in the current political system of the Republic of Korea."
Heo welcomed Kim Seong-jo, a city council member from Pohang, who ran for party president in April, and Yang Hae-du, vice chairman of the People's Power Jeju Party, and Yang Gi-il, vice chairman of the People's Power Jeju Party, in June.
Heo also welcomed Moon, the Youth Chairman. "The New Reform Party is a party that is open to anyone who wants to participate in the new political system, NextRigim," he said. "I am currently working with various people from both parties.
"We are in constant contact with the government and will show the leadership that will be recognized for its achievements," he said.
As the Yoon Seok-yeol administration enters the latter half of its term and the public becomes increasingly disappointed and frustrated, the Reform New Party has emerged as a new political alternative," he said. "Chung's entry into the party has been a major boost for the Reform New Party in the metropolitan area."
This will be an opportunity to strengthen the party's base," he added.
