South Korea's ruling Democratic Party criticizes rally outside National Assembly as ”bulletproof” by Chairman Lee Jae-myung
On the 20th, Choo Kyung-ho, floor leader of the ruling People Power Party, announced that the main opposition Democratic Party of Korea will hold a rally outside the National Assembly to protest the prosecutor's decision not to indict President Yoon's wife.
Regarding the move to hold the election, he expressed the view that it is a way to avoid the judicial risk of Chairman Lee Jae-myung.
"It's not time to prepare 'bulletproof long down coats' for the large opposition parties to wear in the public square, but time to debate in the National Assembly a 'cold weather welfare policy' to support the weak in society," he said.
On the 18th, the Democratic Party of Korea released a statement on behalf of all of its lawmakers in response to the prosecution's decision not to indict Kim GunHee on suspicion of manipulating Deutsche Motors stock prices.
"We are preparing for a long down call," he said, teasing protests outside the National Assembly. In response, House floor leader Cho said, "The Democratic Party of Korea, which is threatening the executive and judicial branches, is now taking to the streets to protest the Republic of Korea.
"They are trying to plunge the country into chaos. They are citing various reasons, but in the end it is nothing more than a political ploy to avoid the judicial risk posed to Lee Jae-myung," he said.
He continued, "For the enormous power that has taken control of the National Assembly to wage an outside struggle on the streets is an outrageous act that seeks to destroy the constitutional order.
I hope that they will spend even a tenth of their political offensive to think about the people's livelihood." He also said of the Democratic Party's move to impeach Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung,
"The very act of pushing for impeachment is unconstitutional. If they don't like something, they can take action by leveraging the numerical superiority of the huge opposition party, which is an act that destroys the constitutional order," he said.
Regarding the current parliamentary audit, "The Democratic Party of Korea has been consistent from start to finish in its impeachment of the president and its criticism of Mrs. Kim.
"In order to prevent the legal risk of Lee Jae-myung, the government forced witnesses to be called and carried out a parliamentary audit," he said.
"We urge the opposition parties to change their stance and take a more positive cooperative stance so that this national audit will examine the issues and explore alternative solutions."
