Democratic Party Chairman Lee Jae-myung's proposal was responded to by People Power Chairman Han Dong-hoon... Leaders of ruling and opposition parties meet again (South Korea)
Han Dong-hoon, the leader of the ruling People's Power Party, responded to Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who said on the 21st, "I hope to meet you again if the opportunity arises."
Following the meeting between the two leaders early last month, it appears that another meeting between the leaders of the ruling and opposition parties will be held.
In a notice published by the Public Information Office, the two party leaders promised to meet again in the future during their recent meeting. Lee Jae-myung proposed a meeting with Han Dong-hoon, and Han readily agreed for the sake of politics for the people.
"The specific date will be discussed later," said Secretary Park. Han's intention was confirmed when Chairman Lee said at the party's Supreme Committee meeting on the same day, "If there is an opportunity,
I look forward to seeing you again," he said, about three hours later. Earlier that morning, at the Democratic Party of Korea Supreme Committee meeting, Chairman Lee said, "We are at a time when a change in the tone of national politics is absolutely necessary.
"I hope that Pyo will be able to persuade the president and bring about a change in the tone of national politics," he said. These were his words to Han, who was to meet President Yoon Seok-yeol at 4:30 p.m. that day.
Lee said, "It is unclear whether President Yoon and Han are meeting today or whether it is a meeting or an interview, but they are meeting. Is it a meeting or an interview? What is important is that they meet."
He continued, "Right now, the lives of the people and the country as a whole are at stake. When you two meet today, I hope you will not end up with excuses or formal talk, but rather work to produce positive and affirmative results.
"I hope this will be a good opportunity to revive politics. I hope that my meeting with Representative Han will go well and produce good results, and I look forward to meeting you again if the opportunity arises."
Prior to this, Lee and Han met at the National Assembly on the 1st of last month. It was the first official meeting between the leaders of the ruling and opposition parties in 11 years. After the meeting, Lee said, "The ruling and opposition parties will work together to promote the people of both parties.
The joint statement included eight points, including "we have decided to operate a consultation mechanism to promote the common pledge for the future."
