A police official who was dispatched to the scene said, "The organizers used a private security company to manage security, but they were negligent in managing the area outside the event venue."
"When setting up the photo wall (outside), safety measures were insufficient to prevent spectators from temporarily gathering in large numbers," he said. Seongdong-gu District Chief Jeong Won-ho also posted on his Twitter account on the same day.
"Regarding this event, from 7 p.m. yesterday (24th), the Seongdong-gu Office duty manager and department managers were on-site closely monitoring the situation with the police and other related agencies," the Twitter account said.
However, concerns about safety accidents caused by overcrowding and other factors have grown, and we have determined that it would be difficult to proceed with the event any further, so we have requested the organizers to voluntarily end the event."
