In South Korea, an executive of a private non-profit organization who was fired for sexual harassment in the workplace filed a lawsuit to have his dismissal invalid, claiming that the disciplinary action was excessive, but lost the first and second trials.
On the 27th, the Gwangju High Court's 2nd Civil Division held the first hearing of the appeal in a lawsuit filed by Mr. A against the private non-profit organization B Foundation to confirm the invalidity of his dismissal.
Similarly, the court upheld the ruling that Mr. A lost the case. Mr. A worked as a manager at the foundation and was involved in numerous incidents in offices and dining areas between December 2022 and August last year.
He regularly made sexually harassing remarks to subordinate employees, such as, "The sake that a woman pours for me tastes the best." The Foundation's disciplinary committee found that Mr. A's words and actions constituted sexual harassment and stated, "He was acting in a manner that was in keeping with the dignity of the employees."

The second instance court also found that A's dismissal was appropriate. The second instance court said, "A's remarks go beyond what can be considered a joke. Most of them contain sexual content and are uniformly vulgar.
"The abuse was extremely persistent and repetitive, targeting many young female employees," he said. "Most of the victims were given performance evaluations by Mr. A, who decided whether or not they would be allowed to renew their contracts.
"He repeatedly engaged in verbal and physical actions that generally corresponded to typical cases of sexual harassment in the workplace."
