”Kimchi is so cheap”... Scammed into buying super-cheap kimchi for 29,900 won for 10kg - Korean report
The price of Chinese cabbage once soared to over 20,000 won (about 2,213 yen) per head, and more and more people gave up on making kimchi and started buying ready-made products. However, food companies started selling kimchi at low prices.
On the 29th, JTBC's news program "Case Leader" featured a story about a customer who ordered kimchi from a distributor in Korea but was unable to receive it.
The buyers saw a banner ad on a famous portal site and second-hand trading site advertising ready-made kimchi for sale for 10 kilograms for 29,900 won (approximately 3,310 yen), and
In addition to kimchi, this vendor also sells fruits, gejang, meat and other foods, emphasizing that they sell their products at low prices without any middleman margins.
Victim A said, "On October 11th, I saw a banner ad for kimchi and checked out the sales website. I found that the kimchi was very cheap, so I ordered it and waited for it to arrive. The supply of Chinese cabbage is low.
"We were informed in advance that the delivery would be delayed due to instability," he said. However, it turns out that the company has not been able to contact them since informing them of the delay in delivery.
A said, "One day, I noticed that my KakaoTalk profile picture was 'Unknown.' I thought that was strange, so I contacted the phone number listed there, and got a message saying, 'Delivery is delayed.
"I'm sorry, but I'll send you some oranges too. I just told him to wait for me, and since October 21st, I haven't heard from him and he's completely run away."
Another victim, Ms. B, said, "It's a well-known fact that kimchi is very expensive these days, but I think it's terrible to take advantage of this to commit fraud."
It was discovered that this company only received money by tricking people into sending money for kimchi, even though other products could be paid for by credit card.
According to YTN, the number of victims is currently estimated at around 20,000. In many cases, one person purchased multiple items, so the damages amount to a considerable amount.
Police are currently investigating the location of the company and the extent of the damage.
