Suspect soldier in ”Bukhan River woman dismemberment murder case” admits to crime = South Korea
A prime suspect in the so-called "Bukhan River Dismemberment Murder Case" has reportedly admitted to the crime at the scene of his arrest.
Gangwon Hwacheon Police Station on the 3rd at 7:12 pm
Suspect A, in his 30s, was arrested on suspicion of murder in an underground passage at Ilwon Station in Gangnam-gu, Seoul around 2 p.m.
Suspect A, who was arrested by police in plain clothes in the men's restroom, was suspected of murder.
After his arrest, suspect A, who was escorted to Gangwon Police Station, refused to answer questions from reporters, such as "Why did you kill him?" and "What was your relationship with the victim?"
According to the police, the suspect, a military officer, and the victim are believed to be acquaintances, and it has been confirmed that neither of them are residents of the Gangwon region. Suspect A killed the victim in a different location and buried her body in Hwacheon.
The body parts were discovered in the Bukhan River in front of Hwacheon Gymnasium at around 2:45 pm on the 2nd, and police are investigating after receiving a report from a resident.
The police resumed the search the following day and discovered several damaged bodies near a dock on Buneo Island, about 500 meters from where the body was first found, at around 10:30 a.m.
When the body was first discovered, police said it was difficult to determine whether it was a body that had come from North Korea or a damaged one.
However, based on the shape of the additional body parts that were discovered, it appears that not much time had passed since the death, and the investigation is focusing on the possibility of homicide. Suspect A was arrested in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
So far, about 80% of the body has been found, and it is said that it is not severely decomposed. The police are considering the possibility that the remaining part of the body may have been washed away by the dam's power plant discharge, and on the morning of the 4th, they conducted a search and rescue operation on the Bukhan River.
They have decided to resume searches in the area around the river, and will ask the National Forensic Service to identify the body.
