POSCO Air starts construction of rare gas plant, Korea's largest with 130,000 normal capacity (Korea)

Posco Chungtae Air Solutions, a rare gas producer, announced that it has started construction of a rare gas factory in Jeollanam-do.
The company is involved in the manufacture of gas-related equipment in cooperation with POSCO Holdings (POSCO HD).
The company was established in August with investments of 75.1% and 24.9% from Hangzhou Zhongtai Deep Refrigeration Technology Co., Ltd., a Chinese company that is involved in the manufacture and sale of rare gases.
POSCO Holdings will refine rare gases to 99.999% purity and supply them to Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, Intel, and other companies.
Since December last year, the company has been working with Hangzhou Zhongtai Deep Refrigeration Technology Co., Ltd. to set up a rare gas plant. The rare gas plant is scheduled to be completed in November 2025.
The new plant will be built on the southern shore of Lake Donghu in the city of Gyeonggi, Gyeonggi Province. Its annual production capacity will be 130,000 MW, which is equivalent to 52% of the demand in the Korean semiconductor industry.
The company also believes that the facility will contribute to the domestic production of rare gases, which has been used for a long time, and to the growth of cutting-edge industries such as semiconductors and the space industry.
It has been difficult to promote new businesses that utilize land or unreclaimed land in this area. However, in October 2023, the government revised the relevant laws to promote investment in the area by the East Lake.
This will enable us to proceed with South Korea's largest rare gas project.
