South Korea arrests waste truck driver who hit and killed elementary school student

The driver of a waste collection truck who hit and killed an elementary school student at an apartment complex in Gwangju has been arrested. The Gwangju Bukbu Police Station has arrested suspect A (4) on charges of causing death under the Special Act on Traffic Accidents.
On the 20th, the company announced that it had arrested suspect A. At around 1:20 pm on the 30th of last month, suspect A reversed a household waste collection vehicle onto the sidewalk of an apartment complex in Buk-gu, Gwangju, hitting elementary school student B.
(7) was killed when he hit the child. At the time, suspect A was alone in the collection vehicle, and during the police investigation, he was found to have been looking at the side mirror instead of the rearview camera, and therefore was unable to see the child walking by.
"I couldn't see the students," he said. The police plan to refer suspect A to the prosecution in the near future.
