The No. 1 cause of stress for teachers is ”protests from parents”...Feelings of powerlessness increase after the Mizuni Elementary School incident = South Korea
On the 20th, the Korea Education Policy Research Institute, a research institute funded by the Korean Federation of Teachers' Associations (KFTA), cited "protests and unrest from parents" as the number one cause of stress for Korean teachers this year.
The results of a questionnaire survey on awareness of teaching culture conducted on 6,050 elementary, middle and high school teachers from June 18 to 30 were announced. The Institute also conducted the same survey in 2004, but the results have not changed in the past 20 years.
In the question about the causes of stress for teachers, the top answer this year was "student violations and protests/disturbances from parents" (39.8%).
The answer rate for this item was 11.6%, the lowest ranking. The top answer at the time was "overload of work" (29.7%). In 2004, excessive chores and infringement of autonomy were cited as obstacles to the performance of teaching activities.
The most common answer was "harm" at 57.0%, but this year's response rate was only 2.6%. In this year's survey, the main advantages of being a teacher were "job stability" (42.2%) and "vacation periods and other benefits."
In response to the same question 20 years ago, the most popular answers were "professional expertise" (41.4%) and "social recognition and respect" (22.3%).
Regarding changes since the death of a teacher at Seoul Soi Elementary School last year, it was revealed that solidarity has emerged among teachers, but at the same time, a sense of helplessness has also increased.
57.3% of respondents agreed that "the sense of loss and powerlessness within the teaching profession has increased." However, 71.5% of respondents also agreed that "the sense of loss and powerlessness within the teaching profession has increased."
The Kyoso said, "Teachers' perceptions of the teaching profession have changed significantly over the past 20 years. At the root of this change is the
"A social climate that does not recognize expertise and a reckless violation of educational authority that does not respect teachers are widespread."
