Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung: ”If we don't revise the Commercial Code, does that mean we can turn good stocks into bad stocks?” (South Korea)
On the 26th, Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said, "If the Commercial Code is not revised, it means that what is called good stocks under the Commercial Code can be turned into bad stocks."
In his opening remarks at the launch ceremony of the party's joint civil affairs committee held at the National Assembly on the same day, Lee said, "The law needs to be revised, but the government has suddenly changed its stance and is opposed to it."
He continued, "So who is investing in the stock market? That's why the economy is getting worse. Is it a temporary economic downturn or recession, or is it a recession caused by a change in economic fundamentals?
"If the economy's fundamentals are not damaged, there is a chance that it will recover. However, if the economy's fundamentals are damaged, it will be difficult for it to recover."
He added, "This is exactly what businesses are worried about right now. The foundations of the economy are crumbling. I'm really worried about the future. The foundations are so weak that I wonder if the economy can be revived in the next two years and a few months.
What will happen in the future when the foundation for the company is crumbling? Will the company be able to regain its competitiveness after the foundation is crumbling like this? These are my concerns.
Lee said, "The key to people's livelihood is the economy. People can only live if there is growth. However, the government, which should play the most important role, is not fulfilling that role at all.
"The absence of economic and industrial policies is destroying the future of Korean companies in the stock market.
Who would invest in a stock market where unfair trading is rampant? In Korea, the government is promoting to the world that "Even if you do unfair trading and manipulate stock prices, you will never be punished if you have the power."
Who is going to invest here?" he asked.
