Heavy snowfall forecast for central and southern parts of Korea today - South Korean report
Heavy snow warnings were issued for the 27th, mainly for the central and southern inland parts of South Korea, and snow is expected to fall in most areas of the country until the morning of the 28th.
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, as of 11:00 p.m. on the 27th, heavy snow was falling at a rate of 1 to 3 centimeters per hour.
Heavy snow warnings were issued in 20 locations in Seoul, Incheon (excluding Ganghwa), Sejong, and Gyeonggi, as well as two locations in Gangwon.
Four locations in North Chungcheong Province, one in South Chungcheong Province, and three in North Jeolla Province. Heavy snow warnings were issued in one location in Incheon.
There are 11 locations in Gyeonggi, 5 in Gangwon, 7 in North Chungcheong, 4 in South Chungcheong, 3 in North Jeolla, 1 in South Jeolla, and 4 in North Gyeongsang.
The amount of snowfall in the past 24 hours was 27.5 cm in Gwanak-gu, Seoul, 20.6 cm in Seongbuk, Seoul, 22.5 cm in Yeonsu, Incheon, and 23.5 cm in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do.
27.3 cm in Suwon, 25.2 cm in Pyeongchang in Gangwon Province, and 21.7 cm in Cheonan in South Chungcheong Province.
There were no casualties or damage to buildings, but the damage was limited in Yangpyeong and Osan cities in Gyeonggi Province.
Fifteen power outages occurred in some areas. The Ministry of Public Administration and Security announced that it would raise the heavy snow alert level to stage 2 at 2 p.m. that day, and the heavy snow danger warning level would also be raised from "caution" to "alert."
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters has instructed relevant agencies and local governments to take safety measures to prevent road icing accidents caused by the drop in temperature, traffic congestion during arrival and departure times, and pedestrian accidents.
In addition, the ministry called on local governments to cooperate with relevant agencies in proactively expanding public transport operations, such as extending subway and bus operating hours, and to improve the security of areas where warnings have been issued and areas with reserve stations.
He instructed them to strengthen safety management public relations efforts to prevent damage from heavy snow, such as by instructing people to refrain from unnecessary outings and travel, especially in areas where warnings have been issued, and by broadcasting disaster prevention information.
