According to Reuters and other sources, Deputy Defense Minister Belousov arrived in Pyongyang on the same day and met with Defense Minister Roh as his first meeting partner.
"Military cooperation between Russia and North Korea is expanding rapidly," he said, adding, "This meeting will serve to further strengthen the strategic partnership between Russia and North Korea in the military field."
Belousov also expressed his hope that the "Comprehensive Strategy for the Promotion of International Cooperation" signed in June by Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Pyongyang.
"This aims to reduce the risk of war in Northeast Asia," he said, referring to the Treaty on Foreign Relations and Foreign Policy (Treaty on Joint Comprehensive Partnership between the People's Republic of Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)."
The Russian Defense Ministry also confirmed the remarks.
Belousov said he plans to hold multiple bilateral meetings with North Korean military and military-political leaders. Belousov's visit to North Korea comes as North Korea deploys large military forces to Russia.
The North Korean leader also said that he was aware of the possibility of a joint military operation with Russia in Ukraine, and that the two countries should take measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
