On the 4th, the Associated Press reported in an article from Seoul about the reactions of tourists who visited South Korea during the martial law incident.
Some tourists said they were unable to sleep throughout the night as they received emails from family and friends back home asking about their safety, but continued sightseeing as planned.
The Associated Press reported that the martial law was lifted in just over six hours thanks to a quick resolution by the National Assembly to end it, and that this meant that there were no major changes to tourist schedules.
Indeed, from the morning of that day, tourists flocked to major landmarks and shopping areas in Seoul, including Gyeongbokgung Palace.
A tourist from Indonesia said, "I heard the news of martial law and I was worried something would happen.
"I thought something might happen," he said, but added that riots and demonstrations are not uncommon in his hometown of Jakarta, so he went ahead with his planned schedule.
Another tourist who visited Namsan Seoul Tower from Milan, Italy, said, "I couldn't get in touch with Italy all night while I was sleeping.
"Many people came," he said, but added, "Everyone here went to school or work as usual and didn't think the situation was critical."
