”Illegal martial law conspiracy”... The Democratic Party of Korea proposes a second impeachment motion against Minister of Interior and Security Lee Sang-min (South Korea)
The second impeachment motion against Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang Min is being pushed forward. The Democratic Party of Korea submitted the impeachment motion against Minister Lee to the National Assembly on the 7th.
Prior to this, the Democratic Party of Korea announced in a public notice on the same day that it had submitted the impeachment motion against Minister Lee to the National Assembly Bill Division at 10:30 a.m.
The day before, Kim Min-seok, the Democratic Party's top supreme council member, said, "The National Assembly will impeach Minister Lee immediately. Minister Lee plotted illegal martial law in advance and distorted the normal proceedings of the Cabinet meeting that discussed martial law.
"There is a strong possibility that he defended illegal martial law by using force against the president," he said. The Democratic Party of Korea plans to report the impeachment motion against Minister Lee to a plenary session on the 10th after the plenary session.
After an impeachment motion is proposed, it must be reported to the first plenary session and a vote must be taken within 24 to 72 hours.
Prior to this, the opposition parties, including the Democratic Party, had criticized Minister Lee for his inadequate response to the Itaewon disaster.
The impeachment bill was passed by the plenary session on February 8, 2023. In July of the same year, the Constitutional Court dismissed the National Assembly's request for impeachment against Minister Lee, and Minister Lee was reinstated to his duties.
