On the 17th, director Kim presented the award for "Spring in Seoul" at the 11th Korea Film Producers Association Awards ceremony held at Indie Space in Mapo-gu, Seoul.
On that day, Director Kim said, "I am always grateful to the audience of 'Spring in Seoul.' Because I knew that many people would watch this movie from the time we prepared it to the time it was released.
"There was a lot of anxiety and worry about whether we could make it. It was a big-budget film during a pandemic, so I was really worried about whether we could break even."
"After the film was released, something miraculous happened and so many people watched it, and I felt very happy.
"I had some doubts about why so many people would watch it, especially why young people would come to the theater," said Director Kim.
The president who had been in power for a long time suddenly staged a ridiculous guard coup, and on that day citizens rushed to the National Assembly, and after the impeachment motion was rejected, they gathered in Yeouido alone to try to get the impeachment motion passed.
"Seeing young people across the country come out in support of impeachment, I realized what kind of people our audiences are these days and why they're watching so many Korean films."
"I feel that young people today have a strong sense of justice. On the other hand, I have been thinking recently that as a film director,
"I was worried about what stories I should tell and how I should express myself in a different way than before," he said. "But I am excited to be a storyteller who will welcome a new era and a new audience."
"I am working hard. I will do my best to create a good work that does not disappoint the audience," he added. "Spring in Seoul," which was released in November last year, was seen by about 13.12 million people.
He also wrote and directed the play "Spring of the Moon," a dramatization of the 1979 "December 12 Military Rebellion," starring actors Hwang Jung Min and Jung Woo Sung.
