Former President Park Geun-hye expresses ”significant concern” over passage of impeachment motion against President Yoon (South Korea)
South Korean President Park Geun-hye has been reported to be expressing considerable concern over the National Assembly's passage of the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol.
Yoo Young-ha, a member of the ruling party's People Power Party and former President Park's closest aide, made the remarks while appearing on a Korean radio program on the 19th.
Rep. Yoo said, "President Park has spoken about a lot of things (about impeachment)," and "(Above all) he is very concerned about the country."
However, he said, "It is not appropriate to reveal what was specifically discussed." Rep. Yoo also said that he was not involved in the ruling party's deliberations during the National Assembly vote on the impeachment motion on the 14th of this month.
Regarding the 14 members who voted in favor, he said, "Those who publicly announced that they would be voting in favor, such as Rep. Ahn Cheol-soo and Rep. Kim Sang-wook, are doing so with confidence because it is their own opinion.
"I think that's the case," he said. "However, it is unfortunate that there were people who gave the impression that they were voting against the bill, when in fact they were voting for it. Many people (within the party) felt betrayed and were furious."
