At the 2024 Go Grand Prize Awards ceremony held in Merriden, Shin Jin-seo (9th dan) won 53.33% of the votes from the selection committee made up of Go journalists and 53.33% of the votes from online Go fans.
Shin Jin-seo also won the Most Popular Go Player Award, chosen 100% by Go fans, with 79.76% of the votes cast and 61.26% of the total votes cast, taking home the MVP honor.
He was named the most popular player for the second consecutive year, overtaking 9-dan Shin Jin-seo. This marks Shin Jin-seo's sixth MVP award (2018, 2020-2024) and his fifth consecutive year as MVP.
Shin Jin-seo won the 28th LG Cup and the 2nd Quzhou Lanka Cup World Go Open this year, marking two major world championship victories.
In the 25th Nongshim Shin Ramen Cup, he was the only Korean representative to remain and made six consecutive wins, creating a new Shanghai legend and leading Korea to its fourth consecutive victory in the Nongshim Cup. He also rose to first place in the December rankings.
In the Female Go Player Award category, where the competition was the most fierce, Choi Jeong (9-dan) came in first place by a small margin over Kim Eun-ji (9-dan).
Sumire Nakamura, 3rd dan, joined the Korean Go Association this year and led the Korean Go boom with her astonishing results, but unfortunately lost out in the last match of the season.
She lost in the finals of the two games and was not awarded. Choi Jeong 9-dan defeated Nakamura Sumire 3-dan in the 8th Hesung Women's Kisei Tournament, which ended on the 10th of this month, and won her fifth championship, proving her solidity.
In the men's record category, Shin Jin-seo 9-dan won the most wins and winning percentage awards, and Shin MIN-JOO 9-dan won the consecutive wins award. In the women's record category, Kim Eun-ji 9-dan won the most wins, winning percentage award, and consecutive wins award.
