On this day, the National Assembly passed a motion to impeach acting president (Prime Minister) Han Deok-soo.
"Today, the National Assembly passed the impeachment motion against the prime minister," said Choi. "As a member of the State Council, I am very concerned about the current situation."
"I feel a great sense of responsibility and am sincerely sorry to the people," he said. "I will continue to work to ensure the peace of mind of the nation and the daily lives of the people, including a strong national security, a stable economy, and stable public order."
"The more difficult the country is, the more important the role of public officials, who are servants of the people, becomes," he said. "In order to ensure stable national administration, I will remain vigilant in my respective positions and fulfill the responsibilities of my government."
"Korea has overcome many crises, big and small, in the past," he said, adding, "The country is once again facing a national crisis, but we need the mature civic consciousness of our people to carry it out."
"I am confident that if this is combined with a responsible response from the government, we will be able to fully overcome the current crisis."
