The total amount of research paper publishing fees paid to publishers in 2020 is expected to reach 13.7 trillion won, up from 1.56 trillion won in 2019 to 3.84 trillion won in 2023.
This is significantly higher than the 1.7-fold increase in open access literature during the same period.
The estimated size of the projects was 2,753.4 billion won for MDPI, followed by Springer.
Nature won 2.3355 trillion won, Elsevier won 2.2966 trillion won, and Wiley won 1.5372 trillion won.
In Korea, the amount paid to publishers for publishing articles was 1,231.2 billion won, while Frontiers was 1,231.2 billion won, and Taylor & Francis was 478.3 billion won.
