Civil Aviation Administration of China expects passenger numbers to reach 730 million in 2024 - Chinese media

According to the Civil Aviation Administration of China, the total annual traffic volume of all civil aviation industries in 2024 is expected to increase by 25% year-on-year to 148.52 billion ton-kilometers, and passenger traffic is expected to increase by 17.9% year-on-year to a total of 730 million ton-kilometers.
The number of passengers boarding and disembarking at Beijing and Shanghai airports exceeded 100 million, and the number of international passenger flights increased to 6,400 per week.
It has recovered to 84% of the level in 2019 before the COVID-19 virus outbreak. International mail volume also increased by 29.3% compared to the previous year.
19 new routes have been opened between China and the countries co-constructing the Belt and Road Initiative.
Passenger traffic to Asia, West Asia and Europe exceeded 2019 levels, increasing by 152.4%, 49.5% and 25.7% respectively.
In 2024, the entire civil aviation industry is expected to reduce its deficit by 19.24 billion former (approximately 415.3 billion yen) from the previous year.
