At 9 a.m. on the same day, Acting Minister Choi met with Secretary-General Guterres at the Government Seoul Complex to discuss Korea-UN cooperation and other issues.
"As we mark the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations this year, Korea will continue to promote peace and prosperity in the international community through its proactive activities as a member of the UN Security Council, Economic and Social Council, and Human Rights Council," Choi said.
"Korea's advancement to become a member of the UN's major councils demonstrates the international community's trust in Korea," he said.
"We look forward to Korea's continued role in restoring the principle of peace and strengthening the UN," a South Korean Ministry of Strategy and Finance official said. "Choi and Secretary-General Guterres will continue to maintain close communication.
"We agreed to work together to resolve issues facing the international community through communication and cooperation."
