[Official] Historical drama TV series ”Former Kei” features R19 exposure scene... Did they force it through using stand-ins? Production company refutes, ”We had discussions with each actor separately”
As the TV series "Former Kei" is stirring up controversy due to unnecessary R19-only revealing scenes in the series, the production company has stated that they have held discussions with the actors.
On the 6th, the tvN × TVING original TV series "Former Kei" was premiered. "Former Kei" is being released simultaneously on two channels, tvN and TVING, and it has been aired on tvN since 15th.
The drama is for viewers aged 18 and over, while TVING does not allow viewers under 20. "Former Gyeong" tells the story of King Lee Bang-won of the Joseon Dynasty and Queen Gyeong. In episode 1, the role of Queen Gyeong is played by
Cha Ju-yeon and Lee E Dam, who plays Chae-ryeong, are featured in a highly erotic and revealing scene, but this has led to a lot of questions about whether actresses in period dramas really need to have R19 love scenes.
In particular, the scene was omitted from the tvN broadcast, and since it was not essential to the storyline, it was flooded with criticism that it was an "unnecessary scene."
It was then revealed that some of the revealing scenes featuring Cha Juyeon and Lee E Dam were CG processed, sparking further controversy.
The actresses in "Former Kei" only found out later that the level of exposure would be high, so stand-ins were used and computer graphics were used to recreate scenes in which the lead actresses' bodies were exposed.
When suspicions were raised that the production team had tried to create a sensual scene by using stand-in actors, despite the scene being completely unrelated to the flow of the story,
Criticisms of the film's "19+ marketing" intensified. The report also said that Cha Juyeon and Lee E Dam requested that the nude scenes be edited, but this was not accepted.
In response to this, Studio Dragon, the production company of "Former Kei," told Herald POP, "From the beginning, the TVING version was produced with a rating of 'not suitable for minors.'
"We opened up about that point and then moved forward with the casting," he said, adding, "It was also made clear that there would be an explicit scene."
Regarding the level of exposure, "depending on the character and the characteristics of the scene, each actor
"There were some parts that were decided in advance, and discussions were held with the management office and each actor at each stage of production."
Attention is focused on whether the position of the production company, which is contrary to the actor's claims, can calm the controversy.
