”National donations” for Jeju Air crash victims' families to be paid after Lunar New Year 31st, not before
The South Korean government has decided to pay national relief funds for the victims and surviving families of the Jeju Air passenger plane crash after the New Year's holiday, rather than before.
According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on the 17th, the government will start collecting donations from the public from the 31st of this month.
Initially, the government had planned to give priority to distributing a portion of the national relief funds to bereaved families as special compensation.
The government, which had been pushing for early payment before the Lunar New Year, rejected the opinion of the delegation of bereaved families.
The government has changed the deadline for payments to be made after the 31st. Meanwhile, the national donation collection campaign, which began on the 30th of last month, will end on the 31st of this month.
