Kwon Yeong-sei, chairman of the ruling party's emergency response committee, sent an urgent message to core party members that afternoon.
Chairman Kwon said, "The arrest warrant issued for President Yoon early this morning was indicative of his innocence.
"This has undermined the legal principles that guarantee presumptions and the suspect's right to defense," the report said, adding, "As the review of the arrest warrant proceeded, there were strong protests from some citizens."
He continued, "Illegal acts do not benefit anyone," and "There must be no more physical clashes. I ask the citizens to exercise self-restraint."
Prior to this, after a meeting of the party's emergency response committee, Chairman Kwon responded to a reporter's comment that the ruling party had a significant influence on the riots by saying,
"Not at all. I think the actions of some of the protesters are obviously problematic," he said. "The ruling party is against all kinds of violence," he said, "I don't think that violence will be provoked and a dictator will emerge.
"We understand that some of this may be unpleasant for right-wing citizens, but we ask that you refrain from using violence to avoid this," he said.
