ENM revealed that "Can't Be Helped" is the first film that director Park Chan-wook will be showing since "The Decision to Break Up" (2022), for which he won the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival.
Filming began in and recently wrapped up. Work on the second half of the film is planned for a release this year. The director said, "I think I started writing the script for this movie about 17 years ago."
"I'm overwhelmed with emotion to finally finish filming the project I've wanted to make for such a long time," he said. He continued, "I'm glad that everyone who worked hard on the second half of the project felt that it was worthwhile."
Lead actor Lee Byung Hun added, "The time I spent exchanging ideas with the director like old friends will remain in my memory for a long time," and added, "I've never had such high expectations this time.
"I have high expectations for the movie, so much so that I wonder if there is another work that I'm interested in," said Song Ye-jin. "I'm participating in this work as a fan of director Park and Lee Byung-hun.
"I was so excited to see the filming process that I thought it would be a really great piece," he said.
The story revolves around the protagonist Man-soo (played by Lee Byung Hun), who is suddenly fired from his job and begins preparing to find a new job in order to protect his wife (played by Song Ye-jin) and two daughters.
