Elon Musk was also given a 7% chance of being pardoned. One prediction market predicted that Sam Bankman-Fried would be pardoned within Trump's first 100 days in office.
Nearly $227,000 was raised on a bet that Bankman-Fried would be pardoned. In November 2023, Bankman-Fried pleaded guilty to seven criminal counts, including fraud and wire fraud.
He was indicted and sentenced to around 25 years in prison in connection with the collapse of cryptocurrency exchange FTX. PolyMarket rates his chances of pardon at 4%.
The same predictions market had $6 million spent on betting that Trump would pardon Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht from his life sentence.
Trading volume rallied and the pardon was actually granted just one day after President Trump was inaugurated. During his campaign for the 2024 US presidential election, Trump said that if elected, he would be the driving force behind the cryptocurrency industry and its major players.
These pledges included creating a strategic Bitcoin reserve, appointing the White House's first cryptocurrency expert, and pardoning Ulbricht.
