The number of candidates to take the judicial scrivener exam (equivalent to a Japanese judicial scrivener) will be increased by 10 next year. This will be the first increase in four years since the first increase in 17 years in 2021. The Korean Association of Judicial Certifications has announced that it will increase the number of candidates by 10.
The government requested an increase in the number of candidates, but after deliberation by the Lawyer Qualification Review Committee, it was finally decided to increase the number of candidates by only 10. According to the legal profession on the 23rd, the number of candidates selected for next year's law exam will be the current 130.
The number of applicants will be increased by 10 from 200 to 140. The Judicial Examination usually has the first exam in August and the second exam in November, and the successful candidates are announced in February of the following year.
The increased number of staff will be applied after the announcement of the successful candidates. On the 21st, the Judicial Qualification Review Committee, which is composed of the Judicial Administration Office, the Korean Association of Judicial Attorneys, the prosecution, and civic groups, held one meeting and decided on the increased number of staff.

This means that the number of selected personnel has increased by 10, which is 8% of the total. Despite concerns about the so-called "turf war" in the legal profession, the reason for the decision to increase the number of legal practitioners is that some of the areas of work overlap with those of lawyers.
There is an aspect of bargaining with the industry. Legal affairs consultants prepare the necessary legal documents for non-litigation cases and act as representatives of the parties involved. In particular, they handle registration and deposit cases, auctions and public sales, personal bankruptcy and rehabilitation cases.
In this way, the role of a lawyer overlaps with that of a judicial officer, but the system of graduate schools of law (equivalent to law schools in Japan) has become established.
However, while more than 1,700 lawyers are produced each year, only 130 people pass the exam to become legal practitioners, resulting in competition on scale and pressure on the public in terms of social influence.
From the perspective of the association, this is interpreted as a decision that in order to strengthen the profession, it is necessary to expand the size of the industry to a certain extent through increasing the number of employees.
The number of people taking the bar exam is also increasing every year. According to the Judicial Administration Office, 80% of the candidates took the 30th bar exam held in August last year.

The number of applicants has been steadily increasing to 616.
