New ways to go home for the Lunar New Year emerge, car sharing usage increases = Korea

According to reservation data from Socar, a car-sharing service, the proportion of advance reservations for Seollal (Lunar New Year) 2025 is up 108% compared to normal, and 100% more than during the previous Seollal period.
This is a 20% increase compared to the previous year's Seollal (February 9-1, 2024).
The study compared the number of days during which people used Sokha within 1 kilometer of a KTX station with the number of days during which people used Sokha within 1 kilometer of a KTX station during the past month (December 16-22, 2024) during which there were no holidays.
The percentage of people making advance reservations for the "Soca Zone," which allows passengers to travel between the airport and the city center, increased by 48% compared to normal and 52% compared to last year's Seollal. The number of people making advance reservations for one-way services between the airport and the city center increased by 2.4 times compared to normal.
Due to the long Seollal holiday, there are cases where people use trains to go home and then transfer to Socar for long-term car sharing, and there is also an increase in customers using Socar for overseas travel.
The most popular vehicles are those that can accommodate many passengers, such as luxury multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) and medium- to large-sized sports utility vehicles (SUVs), and the proportion of advance reservations has increased by 42% compared to normal.
This indicates that there is high demand for multi-seater vehicles that can travel without congestion on the bus-only lanes of the expressway on Seollal.
