韓国MBC出身ペ・ヒョンジン議員、故オ・ヨアンナさんの事件に「悪い社内文化」
South Korea's MBC former member Bae Hyun Jin calls the late Oh Yo-han's case a ”bad company culture”
Bae Hyun-jin, a former member of the South Korean MBC drama "People's Power," is investigating the case of the late weather forecaster Oh Yo-han, whose death was allegedly caused by workplace bullying in September last year.
On the 4th, Rep. Bae said through News 1, "The biggest problem is that I sent an SOS to the company and they ignored me," expressing his thoughts on Oh's case.
Bae joined MBC through open recruitment in 2008, and resigned from the union during the MBC labor strike that began in 2012, returning to work as an anchor.
He resigned from his position as an anchor after Choi Seungho, who was fired during the 2017 general strike at public broadcasting stations, was appointed president, and left the company in March 2018.
Rep. Bae said, "MBC's corporate culture is like a university club, with relationships between people. If you don't like someone in the club, it turns into very childish and violent bullying (group bullying)."
He added, "There is such a culture throughout the company. Even if someone is being bullied, they turn a blind eye, tolerate it, and try to hide it. This is a bad company culture at MBC."
"I said this when I left C. What may look like a great home on the outside is the same home where severe domestic violence is taking place," she said.
In addition, the family of the deceased claims that there is a recording of the deceased confiding in four MBC employees about workplace bullying.
"Why couldn't MBC prevent this, when the family members said there was a recording?" she said. Meanwhile, Ms. Oh, who passed the MBC open recruitment for a weather anchor position in 2021, was arrested on September 1st of last year.
She passed away on the 5th. The news of her death was finally reported three months later, in December of last year. During this time, a media outlet discovered a 17-page suicide note on the deceased's mobile phone.
According to the report, the suicide note contained complaints about bullying at work by two specific weather anchors. The family said the deceased had not disclosed this fact to MBC officials.
The day before, MBC announced that it would formally launch an investigation committee to determine the truth behind the death of the deceased.
We are deeply saddened by the death of the deceased, and will communicate with the family as much as possible during the investigation and do our utmost to ensure that the truth is revealed. MBC will continue to receive recommendations from the family so that the investigation results will be satisfactory.
"We will also actively discuss with the bereaved families the possibility of adding additional people who can be identified as suspects to the fact-finding committee," he said. The Mapo Police Station in Seoul is currently accepting applications from citizens seeking an investigation into the case.
We have accepted the case and are currently conducting an internal investigation.
