Ms. Lee is a veteran female diver who helped locate the missing foreigners who were found after a fishing boat ran aground in the sea near Tokki Island on the 1st.
Ms. Lee, who has 45 years of experience as a female diver, was caught by two ships near Tokki Island.
Lee and her fellow female divers, who knew the village's sea better than anyone else, decided to help with the underwater search for the missing.
The female divers, working in the same group as the Coast Guard's diving team, began searching for the missing people on the morning of the 2nd. At around 4:53 p.m. that day, Ms. Lee found a missing Indonesian sailor.
The female divers later said that the remaining missing person has yet to be found, and expressed their willingness to continue to assist in the underwater search until it is complete.
The local government said, "This is an example that demonstrates the expertise and community spirit of Jeju's great female divers," and added, "It was a meaningful search that will be recorded in the history of maritime disasters around the world."
At around 9:24 a.m. on the 1st, a report was received that the Samgwang and the No. 33 Manson (29 tons, 8 crew members) had taken on water in the sea near Tokki Island.
Of the 15 crew members on board, three died and one is missing. A total of 11 crew members (seven from the 33rd Manson and four from the Samgwang) including the captain of the 33rd Manson were rescued and are currently in hospital.
He received treatment, but his injuries are not said to be in any danger to his life.
