South Korea's lunar probe ”Danuri” to extend mission until 2027

The mission period of Korea's first lunar probe, "Danuri," has been extended by two years. The Korea Space Agency announced this at the "Lunar Exploration Related Project Promotion Committee" held at the Korea Astronomical Institute in Daejeon on the 10th.
The ISS also voted to extend the mission of Tanuri until 2027. Tanuri will have its wrap-up party in August 2022 and will be deployed to Earth in 2025 after successfully completing its one-year mission in lunar orbit as originally planned.

The plan is to lower the probe to an altitude of 60 km and crash it into the moon in March 2028. The low-orbit operation at an altitude of 60 km will enable closer observations of the lunar surface, enabling more detailed scientific results to be obtained.
In addition, the frozen orbit operation will enable the acquisition of long-term scientific data and observation of changes in the internal shadow over the lunar poles over time.
Meanwhile, Tanuri is equipped with a shadow camera. Also, the collaboration with NASA, which is helping Tanuri track and communicate, is ongoing.
The revised cooperation implementation agreement extended the mission until December 2028. Yoon Youngbin, head of the Korea Space Agency, said, "By extending the Danuri mission and changing its operational orbit, we have been able to improve the operational efficiency of each mission's payload.
