Top national security officials of Japan and South Korea hold first online consultation...confirms continued Japan-South Korea and Japan-US-South Korea cooperation

"On the afternoon of the 12th, Shin Won-sik, the National Security Advisor to the President of the Republic of Korea, held his first online meeting with Masaaki Okano, the Director General of the National Security Council, and discussed issues including Japan-Korea relations, Japan-US-Korea cooperation, and the North Korea issue.
The two sides exchanged views on regional and international issues, including the current situation surrounding the two countries, including the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between the two countries this year, and expressed their intention to continue to expand cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
The two sides also agreed to take a special interest in and make joint efforts to ensure that the two countries can continue to cooperate in the security affairs of the two countries.
In order to deal with the grave situation, the two sides reaffirmed their intention to continue Japan-ROK and Japan-U.S.-ROK cooperation, and decided to continue cooperating on human rights issues in North Korea, including the issues of abduction victims, detainees, and prisoners of war.
South Korea's presidential office explained that "the two sides have decided to maintain close communication."
