Regarding whether Chairman Lee Jae-myung will run for president, Lee In-young, a lawmaker for the Democratic Party of Korea, said, "It is up to the will of the people and party members, not the courts."
On the 14th, Rep. Lee appeared on YTN Radio's "News Go for it, Kim Young-soo" program and said, "If Lee Jae-myung is found guilty in the second trial, non-Lee Jae-myung supporters will not run against Lee.
In response to the question, "Do you think there is a possibility that the pro-Lee Party may make such demands?" Rep. Lee said, "This is a matter that will be decided based on the will of the supporters and the sovereign desires of the party members, so I think that the pro-Lee Party may make such demands.
"It doesn't seem like an issue that can be viewed from a small perspective like whether Lee Jae Myung or not," he said. He added, "I don't know (about the possibility of non-Lee Jae Myung factions demanding that he not run). I don't think that should happen (the prosecution's
"I think the process from the indictment to the trial has strayed from the objective truth to a great extent and has been influenced by political factors," he added.
Regarding the outlook for a resolution, he said, "I'm not sure what timeline the judiciary will set or what outcome it will reach, but as a party member, I hope for a good outcome."
Regarding the meeting between Representative Lee and former South Gyeongsang Province Governor Kim Kyung-soo the previous day, Rep. Lee said, "It's a good thing. More people can meet and talk.
"I hope that we can do many better things without any prejudice, hostility or hatred. I hope that we can have more time to talk openly and honestly, and that politics will also be reformed.
"I think we need to go through a process of opening the doors of the Democratic Party to the public more, and I hope that this will be a process in which we can embrace each and every one of the many new values that emerge from that process."
Meanwhile, when asked if he had a dream of running for president as the representative of the 86 generation, Rep. Lee said, "Since my student days, I have lived with the belief that I must do anything for democracy and unification.
So I will put aside my position or status and do everything I can for my country, society, and my fellow countrymen," he said, avoiding an answer.
