According to the South Korean news agency Yonhap News on the 16th, Seoul University has announced that it will not be accepting applications for the first semester of this year's constitutional law courses, such as "Constitution" and "Citizenship and the Constitution."
It was found that the enrollment rate for four courses, "Democratic Citizens and the Constitution" and "Introduction to Korean Political History," reached 92.8%. Of these, "Constitution," "Citizen Education and the Constitution" and "Introduction to Korean Political History"
The course has already reached full capacity, with 40 of the 60 available spots for "Democratic Citizens and the Constitution" having applied.
On the other hand, the application rate for these courses in the first semester last year was only 67.8%.
The sudden increase in applications for constitutional law classes is believed to be a result of the roughly three-month long "state of emergency" and the political situation surrounding the impeachment of President Yoon.
Regarding this, a professor at Seoul National University's Graduate School of Law said, "The increase in students studying the constitution will deepen their understanding of the power structure in Korea and their civic consciousness."
I did.
