”Be quiet” at PSY concert... 50-year-old man threatened with knife (South Korea)
A man in his 50s was sentenced to a fine after he started a fight with a passerby and threatened him with a knife as he was on his way to a concert by famous Korean singer PSY.
Judge Yoon Jeong of the Criminal 18Exclusive Division of the Incheon District Court on the 18th issued a ruling on Mr. A (53), who was indicted on charges of special intimidation.
The court ordered a fine of 8 million won (approximately 840,000 yen). On August 18th last year, at around 5:48 pm, Mr. A attacked a passerby, Mr. B (3), with a knife in front of a convenience store in Seo-gu, Incheon.
A was indicted on suspicion of threatening a man (male, No. 7) at a PSY concert. After an investigation, it was discovered that Mr. A had been dissatisfied with the noise and parking issues at the concert since the day before the incident, and that he had committed the crime.
At the time of the incident, Mr. A threatened Mr. B, who was on his way to the concert venue, saying, "Be quiet at the concert," and "I'll stab you if you make any noise."
When Mr. B asked, "Are you really going to stab me?", Mr. A pulled a knife from his trouser pocket, declared, "I'm going to kill you," and ran away.
Judge Yoon pointed out that the defendant had a criminal record for threatening the victim with a knife and receiving a fine for a similar crime.
However, he explained the reason for the sentence by saying, "We took into consideration the fact that the defendant acknowledged his mistake and is remorseful."
