The event marks 120 years since Japan claimed that it had incorporated Takeshima into Shimane Prefecture on February 22, 1905, and is a forum for discussing Japan's claims to sovereignty over the islands.
The conference will be held to provide academic criticism and international legal consideration on the issue. Professor Park Ji-young of the Dokdo Research Institute at Yeongnam University will give a presentation titled "Historical Considerations on the Process of Japan's Incorporation of Dokdo," and
Presentations will include "Reexamination of the Criticism of the 1905 Shimane Prefecture Notification" by Professor Choi JIHYOON of Jeju National University's Graduate School of Law.
"Through this academic conference, we were able to learn about Japan's position on Liancourt Rocks in 1905," said Choi Jae-mok, director of the Liancourt Rocks Research Institute at Yeongnam University.
It will become clear that the annexation measures are illegal under international law and a historical fabrication. "Through measures such as revitalizing research on Liancourt Rocks, we will prove that Liancourt Rocks is indisputably the inherent territory of the Republic of Korea.
"We will solidify the academic foundation to confirm this."
