「帰宅時は責任を問わない」…ハヌルちゃん殺害の学校で「誓約書」が物議を醸す=韓国
”We will not hold you responsible when you return home”... ”Pledge” at school where Haneul was murdered sparks controversy (South Korea)
The school where Kim Ha Nul (8), who was murdered by a teacher, attended has caused controversy by sending parents a home message that includes a pledge not to hold the school responsible when their children return home.
According to parents on the 7th, the school sent a letter home stating that the school would not be held responsible for a child's personal safety if they chose to return home on their own.
Parents are strongly opposed, saying the school is trying to avoid responsibility for a safety accident.
On the 4th of this month, the Daejeon Office of Education announced that it would implement the principle of face-to-face handover and accompaniment home to strengthen student protection.
The school announced that it would strengthen its measures, but in reality, the school has been criticized for shifting the responsibility for when students return home to the parents. After the controversy arose, the school asked parents to destroy all home correspondence.
Parents expressed dissatisfaction with this, saying, "After this incident, the priority should be to take measures to protect the children, but the school is focused on shifting the responsibility."
Parents criticized the school where Haneul's incident occurred, saying that while some schools have also requested similar pledges, it is difficult to understand why such a measure was taken.
One parent said, "Instead of strengthening measures to protect students, the school is trying to shift the responsibility to parents," and added, "The Daejeon Office of Education should thoroughly manage and supervise such issues.
An education official said, "The parental consent form for students' safe return home is a commonly used format, and there are guidelines from the Ministry of Education and the city education office for writing family letters."
"The school appears to have revised the message to be stronger in light of the recent heightened safety concerns," he said. The school has not yet released a concrete statement.
