On the 7th, the 25th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Chief Judge Ji Gyu-young) ruled to approve the request by President Yoon's side to revoke his arrest.
As President Yoon is expected to be released from Seoul Detention Center soon, his supporters have begun to gather in front of the Seoul Detention Center and at his official residence in Hannam-dong.
They raised the Taegeukgi and Stars and Stripes and shouted slogans such as "We will protect you." The police also responded by setting up fences on sidewalks and roads, and mobilizing police buses to set up vehicle barricades.
A police official said, "We plan to assign sufficient personnel to security." Pro-impeachment groups are also gathering in droves to condemn President Yoon's release.
At 3:30 p.m. that day, the group "Kim Hyun-soo Action" held an emergency press conference in front of the Presidential Office to "denounce the Central District Court and demand the arrest of the ringleaders of the civil unrest."
"Yoon Seok-youl's immediate resignation and emergency action for major social reform" will begin at 7:30 p.m.
The government plans to hold an "emergency rally to denounce the release of Yoon Seok-yol, the ringleader of the rebellion," at Gwanghwamun.
The Supreme Court ruled that the police indicted President Yoon after the expiration of his detention period. Even if he had been indicted before the expiration of his detention period, the court's decision was intended to ensure the clarity of the procedures and to dispel doubts about the legitimacy of the investigation process.
President Yoon's side said, "The investigation into crimes by the High-Ranking Public Officials Crimes Agency does not include the crime of treason, and the crime of treason was only discovered during the investigation into the crime of abuse of power."
"There is no evidence that he was aware of this," he said. He also pointed out that the High-Ranking Public Officials Crime Investigation Agency and the prosecution arbitrarily divided the detention period without legal grounds and did not go through the extradition procedure.
In response, the court said, "Regarding the points raised by the defense, there are no clear provisions in the High-Ranking Public Officials Crime Investigation Agency Act and other related laws, and the Supreme Court has not yet provided any interpretation or ruling."
"If the criminal trial goes ahead while this controversy remains unresolved, it could not only be grounds for the case to be overturned in the advanced hearing, but it could also be grounds for a retrial even long after the fact."
