Victim of ”fighter jet accident” exempted from mobilization training...Deferment of enlistment possible
The Korea Military Manpower Administration announced that those who are obligated to serve in the military and their family members who are victims of a fighter jet accident in EDawn-myeon, Pocheon-si, Gyeonggi-do will be exempt from mobilization training.
On the 9th, the government announced that South Koreans could postpone their military service obligations or return to their home countries. This comes after the government declared the affected areas as special disaster areas the previous day.
Mobilization training exemptions can be applied for by reserve soldiers residing in special disaster areas, regardless of whether they have been notified or not.
This can be done by telephone, visit, fax, or mail. If you submit a "Confirmation of Damage Facts" issued by the head of your local government, you will be exempt from the remaining mobilization training for this year.
The postponement of the date of military service obligation is for those who have received notices for military service assessment examinations, enlistment in active duty, and conscription as social service personnel or alternative service personnel, and who have received special disaster notices.
This applies to those who live in hard-hit areas or have family members who are affected by disasters and want to postpone their stay. Applications for postponement can be made via the Military Manpower Administration website (consultation portal) or the Military Manpower Administration app consultation service.
If a family member has been affected, the enlistment date will be postponed for up to 60 days after the facts of the damage have been confirmed.
Prior to this, the US-ROK joint training camp was held at the Seongjin Science Training Center in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province on the 6th.
Two South Korean KF-16 fighter jets participating in the training mistakenly dropped eight MK-82 air-to-ground bombs on a residential house instead of the firing range. According to the city of Pocheon, the number of homes that were damaged was initially estimated at 58.
The number of households had increased to 99 in the morning of the previous day, and increased again to 142 as the second survey was conducted. Damage to buildings was confirmed as 1 completely destroyed, 3 partially destroyed, and 138 partially damaged.
The number of injured civilians also increased by two to 19, up from 17 as of the previous morning. Of these, two were seriously injured and 17 were slightly injured.
As a result, the government declared Idong-myeon, Pocheon City, Gyeonggi Province, a special disaster area on the 8th.
The acting authority instructed, "I want the Pocheon area, which sustained severe damage from the Air Force's mistaken bombing, to be declared a special disaster area immediately, and I want all possible measures to be taken to repair the damage and provide support to the residents."
If a region is designated as a special disaster area, it can receive assistance under the Basic Act on Disaster and Safety Management, including relief and restoration costs.
The mayor of Pocheon said, "We are now able to carry out government-level damage recovery and support for residents," and added, "We welcome the government's swift declaration of a special disaster area so that affected residents can quickly return to their daily lives."
