Park Chang-jin, deputy spokesman for the Democratic Party of Korea, said in a statement that afternoon, "Mayor Hong said, 'It is true that we asked Myung Tae-gyun to conduct a public opinion poll, but I was not aware of it.
"They are making the bizarre claim that 'I paid for the polls,'" Park said. "The tail of the lizard is just pushing all the responsibility onto Mr. Choi, who is a friend of the son's, and paid for the polls on his behalf."
"Are you saying that Choi used his own money to request a public opinion poll without even informing Mayor Hong?" he countered. "Also, looking at the phone call with Kang Hye-kyung, Choi said that this was illegal.
"I knew about it. It's not enough that he used his own money, but is it unreasonable that he even went so far as to break the law and not inform the authorities?"
Deputy spokesman Park said, "Mayor Hong's claims that he doesn't know Myung and has never used the survey results are all false.
It was revealed that the photo of Mayor Hong with Mr. Myung was made public, and the case where the investigation results were used was also revealed. However, Mayor Hong said, "I was a victim of a fraudster's crime.
"I'm shocked that Mayor Hong is insisting that he is the victim," he said. "If Mayor Hong insists that he is the victim, he should at least be bold and say, 'Let's clearly reveal the truth through the special investigation law.'"
"In the face of suspicion, we cannot trust someone who simply runs away as a 'victim.'"
