Previously, actor Lee Jun-gi was subject to a regular tax audit by the Gangnam Tax Office in 2023 and was assessed taxes. He respected the decision of the tax authorities and decided to pay the taxes.
The tax imposed on me was paid in full. This tax case arose from a difference of opinion between the tax agent and the tax authorities regarding the interpretation and application of tax law, and the decision was completely different from previous tax practice.
There are differences of opinion among tax experts and even academics regarding this request. At the time of the investigation, the issue in dispute with the tax authorities was the tax dispute between our company and JG Entertainment, which was founded by Lee Jun-gi.
The matter was whether the transactions in the financial statements were valid and whether the tax on this income should be considered as corporate tax for JG Entertainment or as personal income tax for Lee Jun Gi.
Other than the difference in the application of corporate and income taxes, no other tax evasion has been pointed out. Namooactors and Lee Jun-gi will fully accept the results of this tax investigation and the decision of the tax authorities.
However, this is an issue that was never pointed out during the regular tax audits in 2015 and 2019 before 2023, and is related to income and asset management practices through individuals and corporations.
As there was no existing ruling from the tax authorities or the court, we cautiously requested a ruling from the tax arbitrator again, and the hearing is currently underway.
