Daegu Mayor: ”Lee Jae-myung's second trial ruling was based on the premise of 'innocent'” = South Korea
On the 26th, Hong Jun-pyo, Mayor of Daegu, South Korea, announced that Lee Jae-myung, the head of the Democratic Party of Korea, who has been indicted on charges of violating the Public Offices Election Act (publicating false facts),
Regarding the acquittal in the appeals court, he criticized, "The reasoning was based on the premise of innocence." Mayor Hong posted on Facebook that afternoon, "There is no reason to disqualify a candidate to that extent.
Mayor Hong wrote, "In the recent election law violation case, a strange judge at the Supreme Court used the bizarre logic that 'passive lies are not lies.'
"There was a time when the court handed down a ruling to overturn and remand the case for that reason, but it's like an earring on the ear, and a nose ring on the nose (interpreting it however is convenient)."
The Seoul High Court announced on the same day that it would "overturn the first-instance ruling and pronounce him not guilty" in its appeal hearing on the charge of "publicating false facts under the Public Offices Election Act."
As a result, the first-instance ruling of one year in prison with two years of probation, which invalidated the election, was overturned, and Lee said he was facing the biggest "judicial punishment."
This will mean that the company will be spared from ``legal risks.''
