In collaboration with the Digital Asset Policy Forum (CEO Lim Jeong-in), we held a parliamentary debate on the topic of "Digital Asset Hegemony Competition and the Republic of Korea Strategy: Trump Administration Policies and the Future of Technological Innovation."
The forum was attended by a range of academic, industry and policy experts, and focused on the US-China competition for digital assets and the impact of policy changes in the Trump administration on global markets and Korea.
In his opening remarks, Rep. Min Byeong-duk said, "Digital assets are now a core tool in the race for global hegemony and a central part of national strategy.
"As the policy changes of the Trump administration threaten to destabilize the global digital order, we are now in a golden time when the Republic of Korea must establish a preemptive and leading response strategy," he said.
"The government will continue to take measures to ensure the digital asset industry is in a good condition," he said.
He has strongly criticized the absence of a "coin real name system" and urged the need for the enactment of a virtual currency business law. "If reckless listings continue, it's only a matter of time before another Luna incident occurs," he said.
The lawmaker, who organized the debate, said, "I hope that the Diet, the government, and the industry will come together and work together based on what was discussed today.
"We must create a practical strategy to protect the digital sovereignty of the Republic of Korea together with the digital assets," he said. "We will continue to expand the scope of legislative and policy public debate related to digital assets."
I did.
