Korean women's group: ”Results of investigation into sexual assault case against the late former lawmaker Chang Jae-won should be announced”

Women's groups have called for the results of the investigation into the sexual assault case against the late former lawmaker Jang Jae-won to be made public. Despite the fact that it was clearly a case of "power-based sexual assault," the assailant reportedly committed suicide.

The groups said, "The investigating authorities will use the records of the complainant's statements, the suspect's statements, and the evidence they have secured.
"We have confirmed a significant portion of the facts regarding the suspected incident," he said, adding, "There are witnesses who can testify about the situation at the time of the incident, and this case is a typical example of sexual assault by power, which will have a major impact on society."
He also said, "We must not allow the facts of sexual assault cases to be forgotten due to the death of a suspect," and added, "The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has investigated the power-based sexual assault cases of the late former lawmaker Chang.
Kim Jae-ryeong, a lawyer representing the late Rep. Chang's accuser, also said, "The sexual assault case of the late Rep. Chang was
"I understand that about 80% of the investigation was completed before her death," he said. "Even though it was clearly a sexual assault case, the fact that the assailant committed suicide meant that there was no substantive judgment on whether or not there was any suspicion."
"Abandoning the decision is tantamount to 'dereliction of duty,'" he wrote on his social media account. Prior to this, Park Hyun-soo, acting chief of the Seoul National Police Agency, held a press conference in Seoul's Jongno-gu district yesterday morning.
At a regular press conference held at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Department, the police said, "As former Rep. Chang has passed away, we plan to make a decision soon not to prosecute."
Meanwhile, the late former lawmaker Chang was arrested at around 11:45 pm on March 31 at an officetel (combined with a residence and a business center) in Gangdong-gu, Seoul.
Her body was found at the scene of the shooting. A suicide note believed to have been written by her was also found at the scene.
