While You Were Sleeping, a film about a shocking love between a married couple directed by Chang Yoon-Hyun, a master of Korean cinema who also directed ‘Hwang Jin-yi: The Movie’ and ‘Gabi,’ will be released on September 5th, 2025 (Fri.) at Cine Libre Ikebukuro and other locations nationwide.
Why did the wife lose her memory?
The film will be “shocking and moving” with its unimaginable love for a married couple.
At first glance, a couple seems to be happy. However, the wife has lost an important memory and the husband has a big secret... A love story for adults, 'While You Were Sleeping,' which sensationally depicts a couple's love beyond imagination, will be released in theaters this fall. Directed by master filmmaker Jang Yoon-young, whose first film 'The Contact' was a smash hit in his home country in 1997, and his second suspense thriller 'Gabi' brought him international attention. Choo Ja-hyun, who gave impressive performances in dramas such as “Sisters” and “Green Mothers Club,” plays the role of a wife who pursues the “truth” about her beloved husband. Lee Mu-Saeng, who is popular for his roles in dramas such as “The World of Married Couples” and “Dominant Species,” gives an excellent performance as the husband who gently stands by his wife with an air of mystery about him.
Kim Joon-seok is a novelist and Yoon Deok-Hee is an art teacher. They are happily married, but Deok-Hee has lost two years of her memory due to the aftereffects of a past accident. Joon-seok is devoted and supportive, and Deok-Hee feels deep affection for him, but at the same time, she sometimes feels uncomfortable with his behavior. When he asks Joon-seok to tell him what happened during the two years he lost his memory, for some reason Joon-suk refuses to tell him. In the meantime, Joon-suk has to leave home for a while to work on his writing. A few weeks pass, and Deok-Hee receives a shocking phone call. As if in pursuit, her husband's mysterious behavior becomes apparent. Traffic violations, large credit card use, and suspicious behavior at the place where they are staying. ...... What was her loving husband hiding from her? Eventually, Deok-Hee arrives at an unexpected truth.
The growing suspicions and the shock that awaits her at the end of the film will move you to unforgettable emotions, and the ending will leave you with tears in your eyes. The ending of the film brings tears to the eyes of the viewer. A new masterpiece of love was born in the Korean film industry, which has produced such pure love stories as “Eraser in My Head” and “Christmas in August”.
The poster visual released this time shows Joon-seok and Deok-Hee embracing each other with somewhat meaningful expressions on their faces. They are supposed to be a loving couple, but there seems to be a secret hidden in their eyes. This reminds us of a drama that will not be easy to follow. The trailer, which was released along with the film, begins with a friendly scene of Deok-Hee, the wife who has lost her memory, and her husband, Joon-seok, who supports her, but the image changes dramatically to show Joon-seok's suspicion. Why did he lie? Why did he lose his memory? The film then shows a cut of the couple sobbing together, and the result is a shocking truth hidden from viewers that will make their anticipation grow. Please look forward to the follow-up to “While You Were Sleeping,” the most tear-jerking gem from Korea this fall.
