"Clear Eyes" (22), and "Everything at Dawn" (24), which was released last year.
With each of his works, Sho Miyake is a leading film director in the contemporary Japanese film industry, not only sweeping the film awards selected by critics, but also winning numerous audience choice awards.
Now that he continues to attract attention, his latest film, "Travels and Days," is set to be released nationwide in November of this year. Comments have also arrived from the director and cast.
"Travels and Days" is a story about a screenwriter, Lee (Shim Eun Gyeung), who meets Benzo (Tsutsumi Shinichi) while traveling and begins to change the course of her life.
The story is written by Lee herself, depicting the process of coming to terms with her feelings. The characters, who quietly gather together, are portrayed with a gaze full of tenderness and love.
Shim Eun Gyeung, who played the main character Lee, said of the script, "It's the best script I've read in the last few years.
Director Miyake commented that the original work by Yoshiharu Tsuge was "a work that is strangely calming and makes you laugh."
"It was so interesting that I felt like I wanted to run away," he recalled, but added that he felt a sense of accomplishment, saying, "I feel like a completely new film is being born."
Full comment: I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Yoshiharu Tsuge and Masasuke Tsuge. Over the past few years, I have repeatedly read manga and travel writings, both at home and when traveling.
It was so fascinating that I felt awe, and there were days when I wanted to run away, but now that I'm editing, I feel like a completely new movie is being born.
Yes. Shim Eun Gyeung, Shinichi Tsutsumi, and each department's work is of amazingly high quality. I hope you'll enjoy it on the big screen. Please wait with excitement.
Shim Eun Gyeung's full comment: About appearing in this film I have always wanted to work with director Sho Miyake. But I never thought the opportunity would come so soon.
So when I first heard the story, I remember thinking, "That must be a lie." It was the most favorite story script I've read in the last few years.
I thought it was important to be myself in this film, so I expressed what I felt when I came on this journey. When I had a problem, I consulted with the director and
It was a lot of fun working together to create the film. - About working with Director Sho Miyake I thought he was a very powerful and wonderful director. I was able to experience things on this set that I had never experienced before.
I was able to experience new things that I had never experienced before, and I learned a lot about acting and film, and there were a lot of things that really resonated with me.
I was inspired by Mr. Tsutsumi. We didn't have many conversations, but
I felt like we were all connected, and I thought this is what they call a bond. I really felt that the movie "Travel and Days" is about that kind of bond.
It was a long time. What kind of movie will it be? The character of Lee is me, and also you. If you could watch the movie and take a trip with Lee in the cinema, that would be
I'm really happy about it. I'm really looking forward to the finished product. - About Yoshiharu Tsuge's original work When I read Yoshiharu Tsuge's manga, the story progresses quietly and it seems like nothing is happening, but there are great moments.
There is something that really resonates with me. I have received a lot of power from Tsuge's manga, and I have decided to do my best in the role of Lee. Shinichi Tsutsumi's full comment:
With Yoshiharu Tsuge's unique worldview, nothing special happens, but the little things make you think, "That's part of life, too." After reading the script, I thought, "I definitely want to do it."
"I would like to hear your voice," he replied immediately. - About the role of Benzo that he played The words were very difficult, so I listened to dialect instruction tapes many times before filming began.
I don't usually have to remember everything, but this time, I was able to thoroughly study it before filming began, which was almost like the first time I've ever done it before. The set and costumes were also a great help.
・About working with Director Sho Miyake Director Miyake's direction is very simple and there is no waste. However, he doesn't make assumptions, but rather sees the play on set and observes the movements.
I think the film is a "mysterious world" but not "unrealistic"; it is expressed in a very realistic way. "This is the first time I've ever done something like this," said the director.
However, there was one scene that had to be retaken, and a lot of it was cut down. Retakes are a tedious process, but it shows how the director can be resourceful and change the flow of the story.
- About my co-star Shim Eun Gyeung: Since she plays a Korean who can speak Japanese, I think she was able to fully express her personality.
Even during filming, she always looked happy and cheerful. What kind of film will it be? It's a story about people who live in a place where nothing special happens, and people who live clumsily.
It's not a high-end restaurant, but a local Chinese restaurant run by an elderly man and woman that gives you a sense of security. I think it will be a work that is strangely calming and makes you laugh.
