54% of South Koreans want a change of government...up 6 percentage points from last week
The results of a public opinion poll announced on the 17th in South Korea showed that 54% of respondents thought that "the government should be changed in the next presidential election," while 33% thought that "the government should be re-created."
Four Korean polling companies, Mbrain Public, KEI Stat Research, Korea Research, and Korea Research, conducted a survey of 1,001 men and women aged 18 and over from the 14th to the 16th of this month.
The results of the National Barometer Survey (NBS) conducted on 10,000 respondents were as follows: The number of people who wanted a "change of government" rose by 6 percentage points from the previous week, while the number of people who wanted a "re-establishment of government" fell by 4 percentage points.
Former Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung received 39% of the votes for suitability as the next president, followed by former Daegu mayor Hong Jun-pyo and Kim Moon-soo.
Former Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moon-soo received 8% each, former ruling party leader Han Dong-hoon received 6% and ruling party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo and former Reform New Party lawmaker Lee Jun-seok received 2%.
The top three respondents answered "There are no suitable candidates, I don't know, or no answer" at 23%.
Meanwhile, approval ratings for political parties were tallied at 37% for the Democratic Party of Korea and 30% for the ruling party. The Democratic Party of Korea rose 3 percentage points from the previous week, while the ruling party fell 3 percentage points.
