On the 25th, the Chuncheon District Court in Gangwon Province sentenced Defendant A (65 years old), who was indicted on charges of violating animal protection laws, to eight years in prison.
On January 12 last year, defendant A was found guilty of injecting highly toxic soil pesticides into dozens of dogs at a dog farm in Hwacheon, Gangwon Province.
The accused was accused of feeding the dogs "bait with stale food," resulting in the deaths of seven dogs. Defendant A was said to have committed the crime in a fit of rage after customers at a restaurant complained about the dogs at the dog farm.
The Chuncheon District Court said, "The defendant caused the death of the victim animal in a brutal manner, which appears to have caused severe emotional and psychological shock to the resident who had been keeping the victim animal."
"The sentence was decided taking into consideration a wide range of factors, including the fact that he has no previous criminal record for a crime," the court explained.
