On the 4th, South Korean police announced that they had arrested a Chinese man in his 30s, Mr. A, on suspicion of theft for allegedly stealing a bag containing a large amount of cash from an acquaintance and attempting to flee overseas. The location of the arrest was Incheon International Airport.
According to the Incheon Michuhol Police Station, on the 2nd at around 6:20 pm, Mr. A stole the cash bag of Ms. B, a Chinese woman in her 40s who was scheduled to stay with him, in the lobby of a hotel in Incheon.
The total amount of damage is estimated at 260 million won (approximately 26.82 million yen), including 10 10 million won bills and 900,000 Hong Kong dollars (equivalent to approximately 163 million won).
According to investigators, Mr. A knew for some time that Mr. B was running a business and had a large amount of cash, and is believed to have planned the crime.
Police tracked down Mr. A, who had fled the hotel, and made an emergency arrest of him at Incheon Airport in the early hours of the 3rd as he was completing his departure procedures.
The police will continue their investigation into the case on suspicion of theft and plan to request an arrest warrant for Mr. A.
